This strip is notorious for being posted not only after the controversial Stella Starchild strips, but also after every RRoD character was killed of in the “Death of Red Ring” arc – as if none of it had ever happened.

This was the beginning of Shawn’s brief flirtation with “nostalgia bait” strips, presumably because Red Ring’s reputation as a “disgusting, violent” strip was having a negative effect on his legal issues at the time.
