Despite everything that happened before (and after) it, Red Ring’s Shawn & Dinah marriage arc is still one of the most moving, emotional and romantic arcs in the history of the comics medium, exemplified in this strip. Honestly, it’s hard not to read this one in particular and not break down in tears. Shawn himself would often say that, for a particularly emotional strip, he would redraw it over and over again until he himself started to cry – then he knew he had magic.

It’s also great to see such a romantic strip from Shawn, knowing that he was going his third consecutive broken off engagement while he was writing it. Turning his pain into such beauty is a gift that few have, and we’re privileged that he was willing to share it with us.
